Gareth Kean

Gareth Kean is 19 years old but already won the silver medal in the 200m backstroke at the Delhi Commonwealth Games. He also got bronze in the 200m backstroke in the Sydney Youth Festival in 2007. He also set a new New Zealand record of 1 minute 57.37secs at the Commonwealth games. He is ranked 14th in the world for the 200m backstroke. He started swimming because he nearly drowned in the local school pool at the age of 2. Luckily he was rescued by a lifeguard! He is considered the 'dark horse' for a medal at the London Olympics.

Daniel Bell

Daniel Bell came 2nd in the 100m backstroke at the Delhi Commonwealth games. In the 2008 Junior Championships in Mexico. Daniel Bell came 1st in the 50m and 100m butterfly as well as the 100m backstroke. Daniel Bell also came 4th in the 50m backstroke at the Commonwealth games as well as 12th in the 200m backstroke.

Glenn Snyders

Glenn Snyders has been awarded New Zealand Swimmer of the Year. He also won silver in the 50m breastroke in the Delhi Commonwealth Games. He broke the Commonwealth games record in his heat! He was born in South Africa but lives in Auckland.

Gabrielle Armstrong-Scott

Gabrielle Armstrong-Scott competed in the 10m diving platform in the Delhi Commonwealth Games at the age of just 14. She trains 22 hours per week as well as attending school at St Catherines in Wellington. She has New Zealand junior records as well as National and Australian titles. She placed 10th in the Commonwealth games which is remarkable for her age!

Hayley Palmer

Hayley Palmer lived in England before moving to New Zealand, at her old school she still holds every record for swimming! Hayley Palmer holds 5 New Zealand records! She came 3rd in the 50m freestyle at the Delhi Commonwealth games and also came 3rd in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Melissa Ingram

Melissa Ingram was born in 1985 in New Zealand.  She won a bronze medal with Lauren Boyle, Helen Norfolk and Alison Fitch in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. She went to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She got 7th in the 100m backstroke in the Delhi Commonwealth Games.

Natalie Wiegersma

Natalie Wiegersma came 4th in the 400m Individual Medley in the Delhi Commonwealth Games. She is 21 years old. She is a National record holder. She got bronze in the Sydney 2007 world cup in the 200m Individual Medley and the gold medal in the 2006 youth world championships in Brazil in the 100m backstroke. She came 4th in the 200m Individual Medley in the Delhi Commonwealth games by 0.03 milliseconds, though she got a New Zealand record of 1.12 seconds!
